Selling a Stamp Collection
What do you have for sale?
If the collection has been passed down and you don’t know about stamps, don’t worry. We suggest that you telephone our company on 01926 634 809 for our free and friendly advice. Alternatively, you can fill out our Stamp Valuations form.
Stamps from the UK and around the world
It would be handy to have a rough idea of the size (how many albums etc) and whether the collection is stamps from lots of different countries around the world (worldwide), or just one country (e.g. Great Britain), and whether the stamps are mostly postmarked or unused.
Ultimately the value is likely to depend upon how much money has been spent on it, and age is not necessarily a factor – schoolboy collections from 100 years ago are still usually only worth a few pounds.
If the collection is one that you have formed yourself just give us a ring and we can discuss the best way to proceed.
Our Guarantee
Your collection will be valued by myself, Tony Lester, whether it is worth £20 or £100,000, or more, and you will receive the same courteous and fair service regardless of value.
At any time before or after the valuation you can ring and speak to me directly with any queries.
What to do next
I suggest that you give me a call on 01926 634809 to talk about the collection and the best way to arrange a valuation, for which there is no charge. Alternatively, please complete the stamp valuations form.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Tony Lester
Selling a Stamp collection?
When valuing a collection we will usually provide two figures, one being an auction estimate figure for sale through one of our stamp auctions, the other being an offer to purchase – where we would buy the collection from you ourselves.
We will be pleased to advise as to the most suitable method for your collection and to assist whichever way you choose.
Purchase
From modest collections of just a few £100’s up to collections in excess of £100,000 we can and do deal with all – and provide immediate payment.
Auction
We currently hold three online auctions a year. Our commission is 15% plus VAT, and payment is made five weeks after the date of sale.
How can I sell my stamp collection?
The most important thing to know when you’re considering selling a stamp collection is how much it is worth. Without a proper valuation, you could be selling your stamps at a much lower value than they’re worth and not achieve a fair price.
We do not do valuations without actually seeing a collection, but we may be able to provide a rough guide from any information provided. A great way to send us any information, is to fill out the stamp valuations form using the link here.
Is a stamp collection worth anything?
The truth is that most stamps in circulation today, or within collections, are actually not going to have a high financial value. This is down to the majority of stamps being issued in large quantities.
However, it may be that you have inherited or purchased a specialised stamp collection, which would bring much higher prices at market or auction.
As a well-established stamp expert, I can talk you through any aspect of your stamp collection and advise you of the selling process.
I can discuss this with you and provide factual, honest information that will help you to sell your stamps for the best price.
How do I know if my stamps are valuable?
It may be that you started collecting stamps when you were younger, or it could be that you’ve inherited a stamp collection, discovered a stamp collection on eBay or at auction houses.
However you came by your collection, you may be wanting to know how much the stamps are worth and how to find this out.
The value of a collection will always depend on whether much money has been spent on it over a period of time.
Every collector wishes that someday their stamp collection will have that one special stamp that will sell for a beautifully high price.
Most stamps are not rare.
The stark reality is that 98% of stamps will sell for not much more than their original retail price – whether they’re 10 years old or 100 years old.
Can I value my stamp collection myself?
No! If you are not a collector it can be very misleading trying to value a collection yourself by looking things up online.
Two stamps can look the same to the uninitiated but one may be worth less than 1p and another worth £100's if it has some rare variety. Getting your stamps valued by a professional is the only way to get an accurate market value
Should I be selling my stamp collection?
Whether you want to sell your stamp collection to a philatelic dealer, collector, or through an auction house is down to several things; mainly, how valuable is it, and if it has sentimental value, is it worth parting with?
You can discuss selling with a team member who can provide detailed, expert advice regarding the best steps to take to get the best prices, or use our online contact form.
