What happens on the day of the auction really depends on whether you are there for selling or buying. If you’re there to sell, then we hope you’ve come to see us first to have a professional evaluation done! Our evaluations are highly comprehensive and we will advise you on what we think your collection is worth and what you could potentially get at an auction. We like to edge on the side of caution when we’re making evaluations and you will always find that they are realistic. If you decide to go ahead, we will advise you on a sensible reserve price and then you’re ready to go.
How the auction transpires really depends on the range of collectors who are in the room that day and any bids we may have already received in the post. Your collection may exceed expectations or it may do a bit less than you hoped but you can always rest assured that we will never sell it below the reserve price that we’ve already agreed with you. Generally, because of the realistic evaluation we have already given you, there shouldn’t be anything too surprising when the bids come in.
If your collection sells, then you will pay a commission of 10% to 15% + VAT (depending on the material) and your payment will be received 5 weeks after the date of the auction.
If you’re attending an auction to buy, then you will be able to see the auction catalogue around 3 weeks before the sale. If you know you can’t make the day but still want to make a bid, then you can do so by post. If you physically want to see the collection before the day, then this can also be arranged but you will need to make an appointment with us to do so. The collections will also be available to view on the morning of the auction day.
Whether you’re looking to buy or sell, it’s incredibly easy to participate in one of our auctions and a lot of fun as well. They’re well attended, you’ll be in a room with a like-minded audience so new friendships are often made and, of course, it’s a great way to build your collection or get a fair price on a collection you’re looking to sell.
Why not come along? We look forward to seeing you at one of our auction days very soon!
